Tata Motors Nepal has finally opened up bookings for the much awaited Tata Tiago EV in the Nepali market. Having been launched almost exactly a year ago on 28 September, 2022 in India, Tata Motors Nepal is now taking bookings for its ‘hot hatch’ Tiago EV for Nepali customers.

The booking amount is Rs. 50,000 and booking can be made through the Tata Motors website. There is no official word on the pricing yet. Tata seems to be waiting to reveal the pricing during the NADA Autoshow happening next week from September 12 - September 16 at Bhrikuti Mandap. Tiago EV is going to be one of the most anticipated and sought after models in the exhibition. Prices are rumored to be between 23 lakhs to 30 lakhs.

Both the medium range and the long range variants are available for booking in various trims, XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux. While the MR variants come equipped with a 45 kW motor right from the factory, the LR variants, which originally have a 55 kW factory fitted motor, have been capped at 49 kW for the Nepali market to keep the taxes and the subsequent prices low. The MR variants have a smaller 19.2 kWh battery whereas the LR variants come with a larger 24 kWh battery pack. MR variants have a claimed range of 250km whereas that of the LR variants is 315km. Actual on-the-road range will vary and real life range has been around 200 - 250 kms based on user reviews and testaments for both the battery variants.

It is interesting to note that Tata Motors Nepal is offering the long range variant with an increased tyre size of R15 compared to the 14 inch tyres that buyers get in both the variants in the Indian market. The Pristine White color option has also been omitted which could be a nod to the particular color being used for electric taxis similar to Tigor’s XPRES-T version that we see on the roads nowadays. The MR XE will be the most basic and the cheapest variant lacking features such as wheel covers, DRLs, power windows, prismatic IRVMs, infotainment display whereas the XZ+ Tech Lux variant will be the most decked out with all the creature comforts and bells and whistles included such as the push start button and the electronic tail gate.

There aren't many EV hatchbacks in the Nepali EV market right now which is getting crowded with e-SUVs and as such Tiago EV will be one of the first models to come from a big name brand in this segment. There are other hatchbacks available but they are either 2 door models or compact hatchbacks that compromise on space and function. If priced just right Tata Motors will have another winner in their hands following their success with the Nexon EV in Nepal.
